BIOGRAPHY
Sandra Small is a native Californian, graduating from San Diego State University with a BA in Fine Arts. She has since turned her love of photography into a career. After graduating in 1976 she worked in a black and white commercial lab, and later for the Museum of Photographic Arts before opening her first studio. She has been a freelance photographer since then and maintains a clientele ranging from large firms to individuals.
Besides her commercial work Sandra has had several photographic art projects. In the 1980's she spent several years riding with the San Diego Police, documenting life in the neighborhood of City Heights. The results were gritty black and white images that have since been published in three books on policing. Several gallery showings of her images have been produced in San Diego. The thousands of images were donated to the San Diego Police Historical Association, for which she received the 2007 Jose A. Cota Award for Law Enforcement
With the transition from film to digital photography Sandra turned her digital camera on a friends vineyards for her next project and again showed the resulting images in San Diego and Paso Robles, California where the Kokopelli Vineyards are located.
Sandra continues to photograph commercially, while maintaining her artistic vision with new projects. She hopes you enjoy the small sampling of the work found within this website.
